REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
MUSIC WITH A VIEW @ THE FLEA
2008/2009 SEASON
NOTE: IF YOU WISH TO BE CONSIDERED FOR MUSIC WITH A VIEW, YOU MUST
SUBMIT A PROPOSAL, EVEN IF YOU THINK WE ALREADY KNOW YOUR WORK.
Curated by Kathleen Supové
Proposal Deadline: July 7, 2008 at 5:00 PM (RECEIPT deadline)
The Flea Theater is delighted to announce the third season of Music
With A View, in 2008/2009, a music series devoted to the discovery of
new, fresh sound created and performed by contemporary musicians. The
Flea has again invited Kathleen Supové to curate the series. Music
With A View @ The Flea will feature works in progress by emerging
and/or mid-career composers followed by an open discussion between the
artists and the audience, curated by performer Kathleen Supové and
special guests. Each evening, two or three composers will have the
opportunity to share their work.
Music With A View @ The Flea was created to complement Dance
Conversations @ The Flea and will follow the same format. We invite
artists working in the field of music to have their work seen and
heard in a professional and informal setting by other groundbreaking
composers, fellow musicians and enthusiastic fans.
The dates for Music With A View @ The Flea 2008-2009 are:
Monday, October 13, 7PM
Monday, December 8, 7PM
Sunday, February 1, 3PM*
Monday, March 2, 7PM
Monday, April 6, 7PM
Monday, May 4, 7PM
*Please note that traditionally, one Music With A View @ The Flea
matinee has been designated our "family friendly" event and is meant
to be work that is fast-paced, full of activity and some visual
interest, and strange and quirky in a good way.
Music With A View @ The Flea is a free series and as such there is NO
REMUNERATION FOR ARTISTS (and similarly, staff and curator volunteer
their services for this), but a wonderful opportunity for composers to
showcase their work. The series will take place at The Flea, a
beautiful, clean and temperature-regulated performance space located
in Tribeca. The Flea has an excellent Yamaha 7' grand piano that is
also a Disklavier with midi receive and midi out function, a house
sound system with a digital mixing board, a digital light board, a
video projector and 6 ft. screen, microphones, DI boxes, cables, music
stands and other basic technical items. Each piece will be given ample
tech and rehearsal time with The Flea's technical director and staff.
Only one proposal per composer will be accepted.
Completed application and requested materials must be RECEIVED at The
Flea no later than 5:00pm on July 7, 2008. Please note that this is a receipt
deadline! Materials received after that cannot be guaranteed full
consideration. The application form is available in Microsoft Word by clicking HERE, and in PDF by clicking HERE.
