THE FLEA THEATER
proudly presents
Music With A View
October 2007 - May 2008
A FREE music performance series
featuring new sounds and lively talk continues @ The Flea Theater
The Flea Theater is delighted
to announce the second season of Music With A View, a music
series devoted to the discovery of new, fresh sound created and performed
by contemporary musicians. The series is curated by Kathleen Supové.
Music With A View was
developed to complement our successful Dance Conversations @ The Flea.
Both programs present works-in-progress by artists experimenting with new
ideas and new forms. Each Music With A View event features the works
of 2-3 emerging and/or mid-career composers and each performance will be followed
by an open discussion between the artists and the audience, moderated by musician
Kathleen Supové and other leaders in the field of music.

The fall/winter season's
guest moderators include Bernadette Speech, John Halle, and Scott Johnson.
The season will feature the works of 19 composers over eight months (list
of fall/winter artists and schedule follow).

Music With A View was created to respond to a need for a lab-like space in which working artists
can engage in a meaningful dialogue with the audience. It is dedicated to
nurturing new works and to the free exchange of ideas, thoughts and opinions
between artists and audience. Expect the works presented to be in various
stages of development - raw, half-baked or fully developed. Admission is
free.

BIOGRAPHIES
Kathleen Supové has commissioned, premiered and performed countless
works by emerging and important composers and, in always being at the forefront
of seeking out new voices, she has established herself as an integral part
of recent music history. This past season she was a featured artist at the
Ussachevsky Memorial Festival in Claremont, CA, as well as the NIME 2007 Festival
in NYC. This upcoming season she will be a guest artist at the Other Minds
Festival in San Francisco and the Pianists At The Edge series at University
of Pittsburgh. She recently commissioned a body of works for piano and electronics,
as well as works for Yamaha Disklavier. In 2001, Ms. Supové became
a Yamaha Artist. Her most recent CD, INFUSION, appears on the Koch International
Classics label, and features works for piano and electronics by emerging American
composers Marti Epstein, Elaine Kaplinsky, Randall Woolf, and Carolyn Yarnell.
She has appeared with The Lincoln Center Festival, The Philip Glass Ensemble,
Bang On a Can Marathon, Music at the Anthology, Composers' Collaborative,
Inc., and at many other venues, ranging from concert halls such as Carnegie
to theatrical spaces such as The Kitchen to clubs such as The Knitting Factory,
The Stone, and The Cutting Room. For everything else, visit www. supove.com.
The Flea Theater was
founded in 1996 by three of New York's most acclaimed downtown theater artists--
director Jim Simpson, designer Kyle Chepulis, and playwright Mac Wellman.
Its mission is to raise the standards of Off-Off Broadway for artists and
audiences alike, providing a welcoming and well-appointed environment for
the creation and presentation of provocative new theater, music, and dance
fare. From A.R. Gurney to Adam Rapp, The Flea's two intimate spaces provide
a home for established artists taking new risks, emerging artists developing
their ideas, and mid-career artists building sustained identities. The Flea
has been awarded a Drama Desk, an Otto, and numerous OBIEs for its commitment
to adventurous theater, and its Dance Conversations and Music With A View series are quickly gaining ground as must-see showcases for the early-stage
work of choreographers and composers. In addition to Kathleen Supové,
other musical greats who have performed at The Flea include William Bolcom,
Michael Wolff, TriBeCa New Music Festival, Composers Collaborative, among
many others.
