The Flea provides opportunities for every type of theatrical expression and we enjoy presenting all kinds of crossover types of performance. The Flea enjoins all varieties of theater and our space particularly lends itself to unique and provocative performance.
Billy The Mime performed AMERICA LOVESEXDEATH at The Flea and returned in the winter of 2009. Talking Band’s The Parrot as well as Concrete Temple Theater’s Imperia Saves the World brought puppetry to The Flea. International theater artists PoldWormJensen of Denmark collaborated with our Bat Theater Company and created seating ARRANGEMENTS, a modern take on ‘Babette’s Feast’. And stand-up story telling comic Brad Zimmerman brings his one man show to The Flea every summer. In addition, the New York Goofs spend two weeks in residence each year with their Clown College and also perform new works. We were honored to have performance artist Karen Finley develop her work The Return of the Chocolate Smeared Woman at The Flea. Burlesque and cabaret have also graced our stages.
Curated by Jim Simpson, Artistic Director and Carol Ostrow, Producing Director, companies whose work falls into the category of Alternative Performance should email any inquiries to Carol Ostrow: firstname.lastname@example.org. If your proposal is interesting and fits into our performance calendar, you will be contacted directly.
