#serials@theflea is a raucous late night play competition featuring The Bats and some of NYC’s hottest young playwrights and directors. This event, which runs Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 11pm, includes 1 FREE beer with the purchase of a ticket. All tickets are only $10.

In #serials@theflea, five teams of Bats perform original ten-minute episodic plays. The audience votes for its three favorite plays, which return the next week with a new installment. The teams with the two least popular stories must likewise come back the following week, but with entirely different serialized plays.

Dominic Spillane is an actor, director, and producer. Dominic began working with the Flea Theater in 2009 as an actor in The Great Recession performing in Sheila Callaghan’s Recess directed by Kip Fagan, also Classic Kitchen Timer by Adam Rapp, and Severed by Erin Courtney. In 2011 he and partner Stephen Stout created and produced the hit late play competition #serials@theflea, now in its second year running. As a producer Dominic also created the short film Falling Down which toured 4 international film festivals, and the one-act festival Dancing With Myself at the Working Stage theater in Los Angeles. He has directed short plays by Joe Tracz, Stacy Davidowitz, Charlotte Miller, and Leslye Headland. As an actor Dominic received his training from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He was a member or the Openfist Theater Company in Los Angeles for three years and spent two summers in Williamstown Theater Festival’s non-equity company. He is currently the Audience Development Associate at the Flea.

Stephen Stout is co-creator and co-producer of the sold-out late night hit #serials@theflea at The Flea Theater. As a member of the Bats, he has appeared as Creon in These Seven Sicknesses, Thomas Bradshaw’s Job, The Electric Lighthouse, plays by Sheila Callaghan and Erin Courtney in The Great Recession, Itamar Moses’ Love/Stories, The Footage and readings and workshops by Amy Freed, Len Jenkin, Sam Marks, Mac Wellman and Gary Winter. He has produced programming for the Old Vic New Voices Network in New York City for London’s The Old Vic Theatre, with whom he has produced London Calling (The Vineyard Theatre), Biting the Big Apple (The Public Theater), Live in London, Empire State of Mind (The Old Vic), and The Arden Project (3LD Arts & Technology Center) – the first transatlantic digitally webcast performance featuring new work by top emerging British and American Playwrights performed simultaneously in both cities. Other recent producing credits include Eliza Clark’s Recall, directed by Adrienne Campbell-Holt (Colt Coeur), ...things i found on craigslist by christopher oscar peña (Son of Semele, Los Angeles), as well as Joe Tracz’s Bea Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and The Fantastic Adventures of Teen Girl Scientist Monthly (both for Ars Nova’s ANT Fest).
